The Danish referee was unconvinced the dark mark in the roof of the Bolzano net was the puck
Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson felt a sense of injustice after seeing an equalising goal disallowed in his team's final Continental Cup match. Blaze's 1-0 defeat by Bolzano Foxes saw the Italians qualify for the final. Jonathan Weaver was awarded a goal but protests by the home team persuaded the referee to overturn his decision. Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I'm bemused - the referee gives a decision, says it's a goal and he's right on the spot." He continued :"I'm just annoyed, "I've never seen a referee change his mind."
The game's controversial incident happened around the half-hour mark with Blaze already trailing their opponents from the first period. The match was the Group E decider as both sides had beaten HDK Maribor and DD Dunaujvaros in their previous two fixtures. "All in all it was a great tournament and I'm proud of all of them," added Thompson.
