Newcastle Vipers forward David Longstaff believes they have made a key signing in the shape of Canadian netminder Andrew Verner.
Verner arrived from Austrian side Klagenfurt in June and Longstaff has high hopes for the newcomer.
"I've played against him in Finland in the European Cup. He's had a long career and he's a very good goalie," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"He's big and a lot of teams will underestimate how good he is."
Vipers are still attempting to complete their team line-up in time for the new season and Longstaff admits it is difficult to sign players during this period of the year.
"We've got two centre-men to sign, and if we can pull off two good signings I'm sure we'll be challenging come the season," he said.
"I think Rob [coach Rob Wilson] is talking to some good players but it is all about money and other options but I'm sure Rob can pull it off."
