 Thomas Vanek's hat-trick came through powerplays |
Great Britain suffered their second successive defeat at the World Championships as a Thomas Vanek inspired Austria to romp to a 10-5 win. The Buffalo Sabres star scored a hat-trick for the hosts, with powerplay goals in the second and final period. Austria led 4-3 after the first period with Greg Chambers, Ashley Tait and Tom Watkins scoring for Britain. Team GB's Jonathan Weaver and David Clarke netted in the final period but by then it was all too late. Thomas Koch, Gerhard Unterluggauer (powerplay) and Vanek (powerplay) had more or less secured the win for Austria with the only goals in the second period. Vanek added two powerplay goals in the final period and Setzinger claimed his second. Britain will next play Korea, who are bottom of Division One, on Wednesday.
