Sheffield Steelers overcame Coventry Blaze 2-0 to seal victory in the Elite League play-off final.

In a closely-fought encounter, Blaze lost out on their chance of the treble, after already claiming the League and Knockout Cup earlier this season.

Jonathan Phillips gave Steelers the lead in the first period, and Dan Tessier doubled it in the second.

Blaze tried hard to get back into the game, but could not find a way past Steelers goaltender Jody Lehman.

Since winning the trophy in 2004, Steelers have twice reached the semi-finals, but came away with nothing against Coventry and Newcastle.

This time though, they looked as if they were not about to let the opportunity slip again, starting the brighter of the two teams and having the majority of play.

Trevor Koenig in the Blaze goal was doing his best to repel the Steelers' attacks but could do little about Phillips' goal after 14 minutes.

The Great Britain international cut in from the left and placed a neat shot past the Canadian goaltender.

Koenig made several quality saves to deny Steelers adding to their advantage, but with his side floundering, he was beaten again when Tessier scored with an opportunistic strike in the second.

Blaze came back at Steelers in the third, but were unable to get back into the game courtesy of some inspired saves from Jody Lehman and the strong defence in front of him.
