Cardiff Devils will play their first home game of the season on Saturday when they play Newcastle Vipers. The Devils have been forced to play all games on the road since September after delays in building a new home.
But their build-up for the game has not been ideal as last-minute work on the rink is set to prevent the players from training on the new ice beforehand.
"It's disappointing but we have to get on with the job in hand," said Devils coach Ed Patterson
The new rink has been built after the Devils' previous home at the Wales National Ice Rink was demolished to make way for a 500m city centre shopping complex.
Construction was due to be completed by October, but the Devils were then told the venue would not be ready until 2 December.
The new 2,000-seat capacity rink is expected to be place for between three to five years when it will be replaced by a permanent facility which will have a minimum seating capacity for ice hockey of 4,000 people.
Since their previous home was demolished, the Devils have had to travel back and forth from a Bristol ice rink for training, while other conditioning work has had to be held at a leisure club in Cardiff.
The Devils, who have lost their last two games, currently lie eighth in the Elite League with 16 points from 12 games.
They have played eight fewer games than leaders Belfast Giants, who come to Cardiff on 13 December.
Before then, the Devils face a hectic schedule of five games in nine games as they try to make up ground on their rivals.
