Tony Hand will not be returning to the Belfast Giants |
The Belfast Giants are looking for a new coach after Tony Hand quit the Elite League club on Tuesday. "Tony made it clear his family circumstances were a difficult issue if he was to return to Belfast," said managing director John Elliott.
"Despite much soul searching he will not be coaching the team next season."
Elliott said discussions were at an advanced stage with other possible coaches to replace Hand, including former Odyssey favourite David Whistle.
"With Dave's previous experience and success in Belfast I believe we have the potential to see silverware back in Belfast next season," added Elliott.
"Current work commitments by the coaches being considered means that a decision may not be reached until the first week of June."
Hand, Britain's top home-grown ice hockey player, took over from Rob Stewart as coach at the Odyssey in April last year.
The Giants finished second in the Elite League in 2005 but struggled in the play-offs.
