Fredrik Nasvall's goal had put the Giants 2-1 up in Sheffield |
The Belfast Giants are likely to miss out on a place in the semi-finals of the ice hockey Play-offs after losing to the Sheffield Steelers on Sunday. The sides were level with just four minutes left, but two late scores claimed a 4-2 win for the home side.
Curtis Huppe had put the Giants into an early lead but Mike Peron levelled on a two-man powerplay.
Dave Cousineau edged the Steelers ahead and, although Fredrik Nasvall made it 2-2, Sheffield scored twice late on.
Belfast had Mel Angelstad called for hooking and then Shane Johnson was given two minutes in the bin for checking.
That handed Sheffield a five-on-three advantage and they made it pay with Jeff Christian scoring twice.
It leaves the Giants with just one point from their four games in the Play-offs.
They face Sheffield in Belfast on Tuesday and if the Giants do not win their season will be over.
