| Cheltenham form checker Looks Like Trouble returned with a victory BBC Sport Online charts the major races of the National Hunt campaign going into the Cheltenham Festival. Hurdle Highlights Choice Chases Month-by-month November - Click for full month review Tony McCoy and Shooting Light lived up to their favourite's billing in the first major race of the season. The pair ran out comfortable winners by three lengths at Cheltenham in the Thomas Pink Gold Cup. The other major results of the month saw Baracouda take an impressive win in the Ascot Hurdle, and Edredon Bleu power to victory in the Peterborough Chase.
Baracouda was always in control at Ascot and came home by nine lengths from Hors La Loi III. For Edredon Bleu, it was a record-breaking fourth successive win in the Huntingdon race. The reigning two-mile champion chaser justified odds of 10-11 to leave Geos trailing in second by four lengths. December - Click for full month review Florida Pearl stunned the Boxing Day crowd by claiming the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park.
Adrian Maguire brought the Irish raider home first in a strong field that included Best Mate, Bacchanal and First Gold. The following day, Supreme Glory won a thrilling Welsh National. Earlier in the month, What's Up Boys prevailed in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup. Over the hurdles, Valiramix warmed up for the challenges later in the season with an effortless victory in the rescheduled Bula Hurdle at Newbury - giving McCoy yet another winner. Marble Arch also laid down a marker with a stunning victory in the Ladbroke Handicap Hurdle, coming from behind to beat Fait Le Jojo in the home straight. January - Click for full month review Having steered Marble Arch to victory, Norman Williamson also won the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown aboard Ned Kelly. Williamson put in another strong finish, holding off Liss A Paoraigh and Geos. And Ruby Walsh, on a relatively rare trip across the Irish Sea, won a thrilling Pillar Property Chase at Cheltenham with Rince Ri.
Much of the pre-race talk had centred on Tony McCoy's mount Cyfor Malta and Henrietta Knight's Lord Noelie. But they both struggled in the soggy conditions. Rinci Re, Legal Right and Go Ballistic dominated the race, with the former coming out on top in the final mile. Elsewhere, Looks Like Trouble made a winning return at Wincanton in the John Bull Chase. February - Click for full month review Rince Ri was unable to repeat the trick in another strong field at Leopardstown for the Irish Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup. The long-time leader fell off the pace after jumping the last level with Florida Pearl and Alexander Banquet.
And it was Alexander Banquet and jockey Barry Geraghty who took the honours, finishing one-and-a-half lengths ahead of Behrajan. Richard Johnson and Gunther Bride won the other major race of the month - the Racing Post Chase at Kempton. The win was Johnson's third successive victory in the race. |
