Having steered Marble Arch to victory, Norman Williamson also won the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown aboard Ned Kelly.

And Ruby Walsh, on a relatively rare trip across the Irish Sea, won a thrilling Pillar Property Chase at Cheltenham with Rince Ri.

Much of the pre-race talk had centred on Tony McCoy's mount Cyfor Malta and Henrietta Knight's Lord Noelie.

But they both struggled in the soggy conditions.

Rinci Re, Legal Right and Go Ballistic dominated the race, with the former coming out on top in the final mile.

Elsewhere, Looks Like Trouble made a winning return at Wincanton in the John Bull Chase.

Rince Ri was unable to repeat the trick in another strong field at Leopardstown for the Irish Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup.

The long-time leader fell off the pace after jumping the last level with Florida Pearl and Alexander Banquet.

And it was Alexander Banquet and jockey Barry Geraghty who took the honours, finishing one-and-a-half lengths ahead of Behrajan.

Richard Johnson and Gunther Bride won the other major race of the month - the Racing Post Chase at Kempton.

The win was Johnson's third successive victory in the race.
