Trainer Balding aims to continue hot streak

Andrew Balding

Kingsclere trainer Andrew Balding is hopeful of more success this weekend after his hat-trick last Saturday.

Balding had three winners at Sandown, while this weekend he has runners at Newmarket, York, Ascot and Chester.

They include Dalghar in the group one July Cup at Newmarket, Constant Contact races at York and Side Glance in the group two Summer Mile at Ascot.

Balding told BBC Berkshire: "We're spread far and wide but hopefully we'll have a couple of winners."

Night Carnation, Highland Knight and Chiberta King all won for Balding at Sandown, with combined odds of 500-1.

"We just had one of those magical days when everything goes right," Balding said. "It was lovely to win big races for some long-standing owners - great for the whole team.

"Night Carnation was the group three and is a very nice filly, she looks like she'll go on to better things which is particularly pleasing. It looks like we have a top sprinter on our hands."

Balding has three runners at Ascot on Saturday, and Balding thinks Side Glance represents their best hope of success in the Summer Mile.

"He's stepping up from having won two listed races into a group two, so it'll be interesting to see how he performs," he said.

"He's taking on the big boys now, Cityscape and Dick Turpin are two of the top milers in Europe.

"But he couldn't have been more impressive when he won at Ascot against slightly lesser opposition in the spring.

"He's had a bit of a break and we'll see what he's capable of on Saturday. He's always promised to be a top notch miler and this is his chance to prove it."
