Johnson ran Striking Article eight times following the horse's operation

Jumps trainer Howard Johnson could be banned after it was discovered one of his horses raced illegally.

Striking Article ran eight times after a neurectomy - the severing or removal of leg nerves running to the foot.

Potential penalties start with a fine but if Johnson is found guilty of neglect or poor husbandry he faces a ban of up to a year.

He has also been accused of illegally giving three horses steroids and will appear at a hearing on 10 February.
