Trainer Johnson and O'Regan split

Trainer Howard Johnson will not renew stable jockey Denis O'Regan's contract for next season.

The Irish rider teamed up with the County Durham trainer, who was robbed of £100,000 last week, and owner Graham Wylie for the last three campaigns.

He replaced Paddy Brennan for the start of the 2007-08 season and won the World Hurdle on Inglis Drever.

"I've had a terrific three years and I've ridden so many good horses," said the 27-year-old from County Cork.

The jockey, who has ridden 66 winners for far this season, was second in the Grand National on Black Apalachi for Irish trainer Dessie Hughes.

He is the third jockey to leave the Johnson-Wylie partnership in the last four years following Brennan and Graham Lee.

606: DEBATE

"Graham Wylie and Howard Johnson have put me up on some fantastic horses," said O'Regan.

"I've had a great time and I had the real pleasure of riding a champion in Inglis Drever.

"Now that chapter is closed in my career and I've got to move on.

"I've not made any decisions on my plans for next season. I'm going to see what's going to happen but I've just got to keep my head down and keep riding away as much as I can."

• Johnson, 56, was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday 11 April, when raiders forced him to open the safe at his farm. Police investigations are continuing.
