Favourite Goldikova won by half a length |
Goldikova returned to form with a stunning victory at the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. Freddie Head's filly bounced back from her disappointing outing in the Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp to earn victory. French jockey Olivier Peslier always had his 7-4 favourite close to the pace and held off the challenge of Heaven Sent to win by half a length. Spacious came home in third, while top-rated filly Rainbow View, the 9-4 second favourite, was only fourth. Goldikova provided Head with his second Group One win at the July festival and the filly will again be aimed at a return to the US later in the year. | 606: DEBATE |
He said: "The ground at Longchamp was so bad and the filly could not get out of it. "She has been working well coming here and I was very happy with her prep gallops so I was very confident. "I also had a virus in my yard earlier in the season, but hopefully that is over now and the horses are all coming on. "She has a couple of options at Deauville during the summer and of course to go back to California and win the Breeders' Cup Mile again is the ultimate aim."
