David Griffiths, from Ombersley, is now riding full-time |
Ombersley amateur jockey David Griffiths is to ride the Ian Williams-trained Mith Hill in Saturday's John Smith's People's Race at Aintree. Griffiths is one of 10 amateur jockeys to have won the right to compete in the flat race on Grand National day. "I am delighted to be on Mith Hill, he's a lovely horse," said the 25-year-old former jeweller. Alvechurch-trained Mith Hill has six career wins to his name and finished third in a race at Goodwood last year. Each of the jockeys taking part in the race will win £5,000 for their chosen charity, while the winner will collect £50,000 for the charity of their choice. The victorious jockey will also be rewarded with either a five-star trip for two to Dubai for Racing's 2010 World Cup or further support to develop their skills as an amateur jockey. Griffiths has decided to divide his winnings between the Injured Jockeys Fund and the Midlands Air Ambulance.
