Hereford have been awarded an additional card on Sunday 15 February as a result of the recent abandonment of race meetings across the country. The course's general manager Richard Holland said that granting of an extra card was a pleasant surprise. "Everyone involved in racing is frustrated by the disruption to fixtures caused by the wintry weather," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester. "We're delighted at Hereford Racecourse that we can step into the breach." Hereford will now be racing on successive Sundays as they were already due to hold a meeting this coming weekend. Holland says all the indicators point to the track increasing in popularity in recent times and he puts this down to a lot of hard work by his marketing team. "Hereford increased its average attendances in 2008," he said. "And we're now offering an extra weekend date."
