Season over for War Of Attrition
War Of Attrition
Conor O'Dwyer won the 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup on War Of Attrition
War Of Attrition, the 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, will not race again this season while he recovers from surgery on an injured tendon.

The eight-year-old suffered the injury in preparation for this year's Gold Cup and underwent stem cell surgery.

The operation was a success but his trainer, Mouse Morris, believes rushing him back for Cheltenham would be wrong.

He said: "He's had no setback and is in fine fettle but we decided time was running out to get him 100%."

War Of Attrition's progress since the surgery, less than nine months ago, has been impressive - normally it takes a year before horses are even being ridden out, but he has been ridden for the last six months.

Morris added: "Had it happened at the start of last season I would definitely say he would be running. Everybody is happy with him but we just thought it would be rushing the job to try and get him ready."
