Conor O'Dwyer won the 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup on War Of Attrition |
War Of Attrition, the 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, will not race again this season while he recovers from surgery on an injured tendon. The eight-year-old suffered the injury in preparation for this year's Gold Cup and underwent stem cell surgery.
The operation was a success but his trainer, Mouse Morris, believes rushing him back for Cheltenham would be wrong.
He said: "He's had no setback and is in fine fettle but we decided time was running out to get him 100%."
War Of Attrition's progress since the surgery, less than nine months ago, has been impressive - normally it takes a year before horses are even being ridden out, but he has been ridden for the last six months.

Morris added: "Had it happened at the start of last season I would definitely say he would be running. Everybody is happy with him but we just thought it would be rushing the job to try and get him ready."
