 Frankie Dettori on Sixties Icon wins the BCG Stakes |
Punters' favourite Frankie Dettori enjoyed a treble on the opening day of the 2006 Glorious Goodwood meeting. The Italian's hat-trick included victory on hot favourite Iffraaj in the day's big race, the �150,000 Betfair Cup (also known as the Lennox Stakes).
He also steered Sixties Icon to an impressive win in the day's other feature contest, the BCG (Gordon) Stakes and took the penultimate race of the day on board Chataway.
Sixties Icon is now a general favourite for next month's St Leger, the final Classic of the British season.

Dettori gave the gelding a smooth run up the stand rail to beat Aidan O'Brien's Brave Tin Soldier by a length.

The five-year-old pulls away from the field as his challengers fade away, allowing outsiders Jedburgh and Assertive to fill the places.
After a poor start to the season, Godolphin are in red-hot form at the moment and jockey Dettori celebrates with his trademark flying dismount to the delight of the Goodwood racegoers.

The Mark Johnston pair Linas Selection and Luberon lead the small field into the home straight before Sixties Icon, under Frankie Dettori, moves up a gear about 1� furlongs out.
From then on, the winner is not in doubt and he cruises home 1� lengths clear.
There is a quite a big late gamble on Classic Punch, a half-brother to the legendary Persian Punch, but the horse fails to make any impression in the race.
