Darryll Holland guided Warrsan to the win |
Warrsan won back-to-back Coronation Cups with a storming surge inside the last two furlongs on the first day of the Derby meeting at Epsom. Jockey Darryll Holland urged his mount, rated 7-1, from a long way back to beat Doyen and Valley Enchantee by over a length.
Frankie Dettori's partner Doyen, a 9-2 shot, was boxed on the inside but edged a photo finish from the French raider.
Favourite High Accolade was inches away in fourth.
"The first four furlongs were run at a fairly sedate pace but once we reached the top of the hill the pace really speeded up," admitted Holland.
"I've never been so fast down the hill but the horse knew exactly how to handle the track."
Trainer Clive Brittain said Warrsan's next target would be at Royal Ascot where he believes he could upset one or two rivals,
"The horse did everything I had asked of him in training and I think he is still improving," he admitted.
