Beef on course for NI festival
Beef Or Salmon was fifth in the Anglo Irish Bank Munster National Handicap Chase
Beef Or Salmon's next race is likely to be at the Northern Ireland Festival of Racing in November.

The eight-year-old only managed fifth place on his seasonal debut in the Anglo Irish Bank Munster National Handicap Chase at Limerick.

But the eight-year-old was said to be in fine shape and is likely to be in action in the James Nicholson Champion Chase at Down Royal on 6 November.

However, trainer Michael Hourigan will want yielding conditions at Down Royal.

"The ground was all right for us at Limerick so if it is like that at Down Royal, he will run," said Hourigan.

Beef Or Salmon was pushed out to 14-1 in places for the Totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup following Sunday's lacklustre effort.

But Hourigan was pleased with the horse's performance as he was giving away a lot of weight to fitter horses - the first three home all having had the benefit of a previous run this term.

"He ran a smashing race," said the County Limerick-based handler.

"Some of the horses there were fit from summer racing and they are not bad horses."
