The 28-year-old Irishman achieved the feat 242 days after the new season began on 29 April, beating his own record by 16 days. In a record-breaking year, the seven-times champion jump jockey improved on his own mark for the fastest 100 winners in September.
McCoy also broke Richard Dunwoody's all-time winners record over jumps of 1,699. It took Dunwoody 16 years and over 9,300 mounts to amass his winners, while McCoy has needed just half that time and about 3,000 fewer rides. In April, he overtook Sir Gordon Richards' long-standing mark of 269 winners in a season, set on the flat in 1947. Bookmakers William Hill make McCoy a 1-3 chance to record an amazing 300 winners. "It'll be tough and I've just got to keep going," said McCoy. |
