Mantell has been out of action for more than five months

Richard Mantell has been named in England's Commonwealth Games squad after recovering from a serious leg injury sustained in March's World Cup.

The penalty-corner specialist fractured his right fibula and dislocated his ankle playing against Pakistan.

Mantell's younger brother Simon is also included in the 16-man group after an absence with a broken foot.

The Games begin in Delhi on 3 October, with New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia and Wales in England's pool.

It had been feared that Richard Mantell would miss his second successive Commonwealths after injury forced him out of the Melbourne edition of the Games.

Seven of the squad were part of the team that finished fourth in 2006, including Barry Middleton, who is the most-capped member of the party with 135 international appearances.

World Young Player of the Year Ashley Jackson, who plays alongside Middleton at Dutch club HGC, is making his first appearance at the Commonwealth Games along with 17-year-old Harry Martin, who is the only uncapped player in the squad.

Despite losing the elder Mantell early in their campaign, England went on to reach the World Cup semi-finals and made the final of the Champions Trophy for the first time in August.

"The squad has made good progress in recent tournaments and we will look to continue that while competing for the medals against the likes of Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan," said coach Jason Lee.
