World champions the Netherlands beat England's women 1-0 in the EuroHockey Nations Championship in Manchester. The hosts, who reached the semi-finals despite their loss, were solid at the back but made little impact in attack.
The Dutch, already into the final four, maintained their 100% record in the group stage thanks to a second-half goal from captain Minke Booij.
But their victory came at a price as the lost star Maartje Poumen to a knee injury which could end her tournament.
England coach Danny Kerry said he was satisfied with his side's performance, particularly their defending.
But he added: "Generating chances is not a concern, putting them away perhaps is."
Captain Kate Walsh said: "It was a tight game and the longer we kept it tight, the more chance we had of getting something from the game."
England now face Pool B winners Germany on Thursday, while the Netherlands take on Spain in the other semi-final.
In Tuesday's other matches, Germany beat Spain 1-0, Ireland defeated Italy 3-0, and Azerbaijan saw off Ukraine 3-1.
The men's competition saw Spain hammer France 6-0 and the Netherlands beat Ireland 1-0.
