England defeated Ireland 3-0 in the opening match of their Euro Hockey campaign on Saturday in Manchester. The English dominated possession from the start and got the breakthrough goal through Alex Danson in the 18th minute.
Lucilla Wright doubled their advantage in the 34th minute and they wrapped up the win with Cathy Gilliat-Smith scoring late on.
England take on Italy on Monday with Ireland facing the Netherlands in their next game.
England head coach Danny Kerry said: "Statistically and historically, host teams have played tentatively during the opening match. "Although this was a solid performance, I think there is a lot more to come from my team.
"I am sure we will have the chance to play some more attractive hockey during the course of the Championships."
