Mixed start for Ireland teams
Stephen Butler
Stephen Butler scored Ireland's third goal against Scotland
The Irish men's team began their Celtic Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Scotland in Wrexham on Saturday.

Goals from Ulster players Eugene Magee and Mark Irwin put Ireland 2-0 ahead with Dave Mitchell pulling one back before Stephen Butler added the third.

However, the Irish women made a losing start when they went down to a 4-1 defeat against Scotland.

Nicky Kidd and Holly Cram each bagged a double for the Scots while Nicky Symmons was on target for Ireland.

"We didn't play very well and scoreline suggests that," said Ireland women's coach Gene Muller.

"I wasn't overly happy we started off conceding too much time and space and conceding a goal in the first minute of each half.

"We were on the back foot and didn't have the ability to turn it around - we will regroup and focus on Sunday's game."
