Keatings says he is comfortable with being recognised in public |
Corby gymnast Daniel Keatings said his profile has risen dramatically in the past year as he accepted an accolade for outstanding sports achievement. The 19-year-old took the BBC East sports award after winning silver in the all-around event at the World Championships in October. "I'm definitely getting more popular," Keatings told BBC Radio Northampton. "A lot of people are starting to notice me and I've had more media attention - but that's all good," he added. He even appeared in a recent edition of the BBC's Question of Sport quiz programme and said: "It was a bit nerve-wracking but my team won! I enjoyed being there all the way through it. "I've had one of the best years of my career and I'm just happy it's being recognised. "Next year is a big year for the team competitions. We have European and World championships and are hoping to get a team into the Olympics. "Obviously my dream is get a gold medal in 2012. But I'm just going to do my best, hopefully get a medal and please the home crowd." Keatings' silver in the World Championships this year was Britain's first-ever medal in the men's all-around event.
