Thompson on target for Olympics

Teenage Devon gymnast Jay Thompson is back in the county preparing for the forthcoming British Championships beginning on 30 October.

The 13-year-old has been away on international duties for England in 34th Tullit Peter Cup in Hungary where he came away with five gold medals.

Thompson had to compete in the Under- 16s event but, despite his age, managed to out perform his competitors.

He also recently won a team gold with England in the UK School Games.

The Paignton-born gymnast also came away from the UK Schools with another two gold medals after a fantastic performance on the pommel and parallel bars.

Thompson is a member of the Exeter Gymnastics Club where he trains on a regular basis - and when home from training camps he is coached six days a week.
