Wilson and Opposition Buzz were on the reserve list for the 2008 Olympics

Northallerton's Nicola Wilson has set her sights on remaining in the Great Britain team after their gold medal success at the European Championships.

Wilson, Tina Cook, William Fox-Pitt, and Oliver Townend secured an eighth successive team gold for GB.

It was Wilson's senior team debut and she told BBC Radio York: "You spend years trying to achieve this.

"Hopefully it would be lovely to think that this was just the start of what might come."

Wilson was called into the team after Mary King's horse went lame and she said it was a fantastic opportunity for her and her horse, Opposition Buzz.

"I still keep having to pinch myself. It was an amazing week. It's a dream come true. It's something from school age that I've been aspiring towards.

"But there's so much luck involved and I've got to stay on peak performance and fitness as do the horses and you hope you've got more horses coming through.

"But you do need quite a lot of luck as well."

Wilson finished ninth in the individual competition and although she was out of the medals in that competition she was pleased with her performance.

"If somebody had said we were going to be in the top 10 I would have been absolutely delighted so that was a fantastic result for the horse and I," she said.

Wilson is aiming for the 2012 Olympics but she acknowledged that there is a lot of work still to be done before that.

"You can't rest on your laurels," she said. "We've got a busy winter ahead of us.

"The horse will have a lovely little break and then we'll start preparing for next year and hopefully improve and raise our game and be selected for next year.

"I think we've got the World Equestrian games in America so fingers crossed. It would be lovely to think we'd be part of that as well."
