Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris captured dressage bronze for Great Britain in the individual grand prix at the European Championships in Windsor. Bechtolsheimer, 24, prevented a Dutch clean sweep of the medals by posting the highest ever grand prix score by a British rider - 80.08%. Adelinde Cornilessen took gold with a world record 84.042%, ahead of compatriot Edward Gal. "I went into the arena more determined than ever," said Bechtolsheimer. "It was without doubt the best test I've ever ridden and my horse gave me everything. He's a talented horse and I knew I had a chance but to actually manage it is just amazing. | 606: DEBATE |
"Sporting history has been made and to be part of it on home turf is very very special. I'm still a bit shaken up." Bechtolsheimer's performance followed the British dressage team's silver on Wednesday. It is the host nation's first individual dressage medal since Emile Faurie secured a bronze in 1993.
