Great Britain continued their dominance of the team competition |
Zara Phillips failed to retain her European eventing title after a disappointing show-jumping round on the final day of the competition in Italy. But there was consolation for the world champion, with Great Britain claiming their seventh successive team gold as Mary King took individual silver.
Phillips, who was second going into the final day, paid for a refusal on Toytown and slipped down to sixth.
France's Nicolas Touzaint held his nerve to win his second title.
King rose to silver with a clear round on Call Again Cavalier while Daisy Dick finished seventh on Spring Along and Oliver Townend was 12th on Flint Curtis.
Germany's Bettina Hoy, the 1997 European Champion, took the individual bronze.
