Funnell and Primmore's Pride were a perfect team at Badminton |
Britain's Pippa Funnell has claimed her third Badminton Horse Trials title. Funnell, who took the lead after the dressage on day two, edged 2004 winners William Fox-Pitt and Tamarillo in a tense showjumping finale on Sunday.
Funnell had 1.5 penalties in hand going into the final day but guided Primmore's Pride round clear and without time faults.
The 12-year-old gelding became the first horse to land the Lexington, Burghley and Badminton eventing treble.
"A black cat ran across the road as I was having breakfast this morning," said the 36-year-old Funnell, who won on Supreme Rock in 2002 and 2003. "It disappeared before William saw it."
Australian Olympic champion Andrew Hoy finished third on Master Monarch.
Fox-Pitt felt Tamarillo "was not in the right frame of mind" before the showjumping.
But he added: "I came here knowing Pippa was the one to beat."
Tina Cook, who was airlifted to hospital after falling from Captain Christy, has fractured a vertebrae but was able to walk out of hospital.
Cook has represented Britain in two European Championships and the World Games.
