Fox trains at Newquay Comorants swimming club

Cornish swimmer Jonathan Fox has set his sights on winning gold at the London 2012 Paralympics.

Fox, who was born with cerebral palsy, has just won gold in the 100m backstroke (S7 category) at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester.

The 19-year-old told BBC Cornwall: "Obviously 2012 is two years away, but I really am going for gold.

"I just want to make a really big appearance in London, and I think I will get gold."

Fox, who picked up a silver medal in the 100m backstroke at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, has recently begun to excel in other events.

The teenager is the world number one over 400m freestyle in 2010, and is also in the top three for both the 50m and 100m freestyle.

And by the time the Paralympics land in London, Fox is hoping he will competing for medals across all four disciplines.

He said: "Being in a home nation with the home crowd is just unbelievable.

"It's probably going to be the only Paralympics I'm going to go to which is going to be in London."

Phil Goldman, Fox's coach at Newquay Comorants swimming club, believes the key to their partnership is working very closing together.

Goldman said: "We have to keep focused all of the time and it's all about planning.

"It's teamwork between us, it's communication, and it's very important that we each know what we're thinking."
