Greaves enjoyed gold medal success in Athens in 2004

Paralympic discus thrower Danny Greaves goes into Tuesday's Paralympic World Cup in good form after setting a new world record at Loughborough on Sunday.

The 2004 Paralympic champion, who was born with a foot deformity, threw 57.14m for a new best in his class.

He will face a strong field including Paralympic champion Jeremy Campbell on Tuesday in Manchester.

There was also a world record for teenage wheelchair racer Hannah Cockroft in the T34 400m.

But the 17-year-old will not be competing in Manchester as there is not an event for her category.

Among the others taking part in the event at the city's Regional Arena will be Beijing medalists Dave Weir, Shelly Woods, Mickey Bushell, Ian Jones and Ben Rushgrove.

Jones will face double amputee and four-time Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius over 100 and 400m.

In March, Greaves threw a lifetime best and unofficial world record of 56.50m in Sweden and continued that form at Loughborough with his impressive opening-round throw which beat the qualifying standard for the World Championships in New Zealand next January.

"That performance has come at a great time for me after my throw in Sweden," said Greaves.

"I don't typically go full throttle in the first round, so it was good for me. I've opened up really well this outdoor season and I can now realistically hope to better myself on Tuesday.

"I wanted to hit some good form early so I can get back into training to prepare with confidence for the late peak."

Cockroft set her mark at the UKA Disability Athletics Challenge event in Knowsley.

The 17-year-old beat Deborah Brennan's previous world mark of one minute 7.68 seconds - set back in 2002 - by over two seconds with a new time of 1:05.51.
