Great Britain's Daniel Greaves smashed the world record on his way to winning the F44/46 Paralympic discus title. The Leicester athlete launched his last effort a massive 55.12m to win the gold although his best three attempts were all good enough to secure the title.
"It's just awesome to have the gold," said Greaves. "I've been throwing 55m in training so I knew I had the potential to pull it out the bag."
Denmark's Jackie Christiansen took silver with China's Ha Si Lao third.
Danny West made it a discus double for Britain when he managed silver in the F33/34.
West threw a season's best 36.76m but he could not match Iran's Siamak Safehfarajzadeh, who launched a new world record 39.12m. British team-mate event Chris Martin finished in fourth.
Greaves took the silver medal in Sydney four years ago , aged just 17.
The Loughborough University student is also the first Paralympic athlete to represent Great Britain in an able-bodied event - he was selected for GB's junior team in 2001.
"I've won European and World Championships but this is the pinnacle," Greaves told BBC Sport.
"I've been working really hard at Loughborough and if I'd lost it would have been a disaster for me.
"I just needed to get my arm in fast and shake off my jelly legs."
