Stephens has competed at two Paralympic Games |
Simon Miller and Anthony Stephens both set new British records on day two of the British International Disability Swimming Championships in Sheffield. Miller, who competes in the S9 category, finished fourth in his 50m freestyle race in 26.94 seconds. As well as a British record, his time was enough to beat the qualifying standard for the Commonwealth Games. Stephens bettered his own British standard of one minute 15.50 seconds in the 100m freestyle in the S5 class. Elsewhere, Fran Williamson marked her return from injury by achieving the qualifying time for August's World Paralympic Championships in Holland in the S3 50m backstroke. Williamson touched in a time of 1:05.86 and was delighted with her efforts. "I have only been back in the water for 12 weeks and it was tough but it didn't hurt as much as it used to," she said. "I have a new coach and we have been working well together. I am looking forward to getting some more time back in the water in the lead up to the Worlds." There were also world qualifying times for Rhiannon Henry and Stephanie Millward in their respective 100m butterfly categories.
