Peter Shakesby is the driving force behind Hull Stingers |
Wheelchair basketball coach Peter Shakesby has been named as the BBC Sports Unsung Hero for East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Shakesby, 37, has been Hull Stingers' coach since the club was formed two-years-ago. He told BBC Look North: "I do the fundraising, all the publicity, I'm an assistant coach and I'm training to be a referee." Last weekend the team participated in its first national competition. In two years the club has grown into a squad of more than 20, incorporating a thriving junior section alongside senior players. The award's judging panel included Lincoln City secretary Fran Martin, Pam Dunwell from Hull's Playing for Success scheme and Steve Marshall of the BBC Regional Advisory Council.
