Pollock contributed 34 points and five assists |
Great Britain beat Poland 73-65 to win the bronze medal at the European wheelchair basketball championships. Having lost 75-69 to hosts Turkey in Wednesday's semi-final, the British team began well against the Poles, leading 14-12 after the first quarter. Jon Pollock's prodigious scoring extended the lead to 37-33 at half-time but Poland refused to be shaken off. They won the third quarter to cut the gap to three points but Terry Bywater and Pollock inspired the British win. Afterwards, head coach Murray Treseder said there were plenty of reasons to be proud of the team's display. "I am pleased with the team's performance during the championships," he said. "We are disappointed that we were not in the final but we are making pleasing progress as the team heads towards the 2010 World Championships in Birmingham."
