 Shuker is ranked fifth in the world for doubles |
British number one Lucy Shuker and partner Daniela di Toro lost the women's doubles final at the US Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships. Shuker and Australian Di Toro raced into a 4-1 lead over Dutch pair Jiske Griffioen and Korie Homan but the top seeds won the next seven games. And although Shuker and Di Toro saved four match points, they lost 6-4 6-2. Briton Jamie Burdekin and Swede Johan Andersson lost 6-3 7-5 to Nick Taylor and David Wagner in the quad doubles. Burdekin and Andersson had three set points to take Paralympic champions Taylor and Wagner to a deciding set but failed to take their chances. The event in St Louis is the final Super Series event of the 2009 Tour. Meanwhile, British men's number three Marc McCarroll won the men's singles and doubles titles at the Karlovac Open in Croatia. McCarroll beat Russia's Leonid Shevchik 6-3 6-0 in the singles final before partnering Croatia's Drazen Miksic to victory in the men's doubles. The duo beat top seeds Shevchik and Konstantin Vazouras of Greece 6-1 6-0 in the semi-finals before going on to also win the final in straight sets.
