Pistorius spent a week in hospital after the accident on the Vaal River |
Paralympic champion sprinter Oscar Pistorius has confirmed he will compete at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester in May. The South African double amputee is recovering after suffering head and facial injuries after a boating accident in Johannesburg in February. "I am recovering very well from the accident. Better than anticipated," said the 22-year-old. "This competition gives me a vital indication as to where my season is." Pistorius won three gold medals in the T44 100, 200 and 400m in Beijing and will compete in the 100m and 400m at the Manchester Regional Arena on Sunday 24 May. The event, which also includes wheelchair basketball, cycling and swimming, will take place from 20-25 May and is the first major multi-sport elite disability event to be staged since the Beijing Paralympic Games. Over 400 competitors from 31 countries are scheduled to compete.
