Hayden Maguire is the latest winner of the JSAD's top award |
The Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled has named Hayden Maguire as their Sports Personality of the Year for 2008. The 44-year-old initially joined the group as a swimmer and is still part of the JSAD's Swim Easy team. But he was given his award for his achievements as a petanque player and his work with the Jersey Petanque Club. He not only plays but also helps to organise petanque sessions for both able-bodied and disabled players. "Hayden is a tremendous example of someone with a learning difficulty who has integrated fully into a mainstream sport," said the chairman of the JSAD, Paul Patterson. "He represents the whole ethos of the JSAD which is to try and get sports people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities to compete with able-bodied people wherever possible."
