Britain's Paralympic hopefuls won a gold and a silver in the adaptive finals at the World Rowing Championships in Munich.

Newcomer Tom Aggar secured gold in the mens arms-only sculls, beating Australia's defending world champion Dominic Monypenny.

The adaptive mixed coxed four failed to retain their world crown, finishing second to a strong German crew.

Helene Raynsford could only finish fifth in the women's arms-only final.

Aggar, who only took up rowing on water last November, led from start to finish in his race.

"That was both exhilarating and exhausting," said the University of Warwick biological sciences graduate after his win.

"My aim was to get in front from the start and stay ahead.

"I probably started my last push too early and I began to fade a bit coming to the line but I had enough to get me through.

"To be even at these championships is amazing and I never thought I would get here in such a short time."
