Shuker reached the quarter-finals of the British Open last week |
British women's number one Lucy Shuker has reached a career-high nine in the latest set of NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour world rankings. Shuker broke into the top 10 last week and her win over world number six Mie Yaosa at last week's British Open has pushed her up a further place.
She has also reached a personal best ninth in the doubles after reaching the semi-finals in Nottingham last week.
The Taunton player is taking part in this week's NEC Tour event in Utrecht.
Also competing in the Netherlands is Britain's leading junior, David Phillipson, who has also improved his world ranking this week.
The Nottinghamshire player, who is the British number three, moved up to 33 after making the second round of the British Open on his debut in the main singles draw.
Derbyshire player Alex Jewitt, who is also playing in Utrecht, is one place ahead of Phillips at 32, which is also his highest ranking to date.
Jewitt and Phillipson are among the contenders to assume the mantle of British number one after 13-time National Champion Jayant Mistry, who has held the position for over 10 years, announced his retirement earlier in July due to ongoing injury problems.
