Hopes high for GB deaf football
World deaf football champions Great Britain will aim to add the European Championship title to their successes in Portugal early next month.

Great Britain secured their place in the finals after an 8-0 aggregate win over Sweden in their qualifiers.

They begin their campaign against Hungary on 11 June in Oeiras and take on the Czech Republic at the same venue two days later.

Their final pool game is against the hosts on 15 June in Estoril.

GB can rely on 15 of the players who led them to gold at the 2005 Deaflympics in Australia, including striker Lee Farrell who scored 11 goals during the campaign.

Captain Nick Beese, who was part of the Deaflympics squad, misses out after undergoing a knee operation.

GB have struggled to make an impact at European Championships in the past but will be among the favourites to win this time around, along with holders Germany.

GB squad: Greg Beedie, Alistair Dalziel, John Atkinson, Daniel Ailey, Chris Naylor, Daniel Hogan, Jason Corbett, Jon Evans, Nicholas Gregory, Oliver Monksfield, Oliver Wilcox, Peter Wood, Steven Gardiner, Taljinder Singh, Gary Spotswood, Ben Lampert, Chris Beech, Darrell Sykes, Gary Crofton, Lee Farrell.
