Norfolk will keep his status as world number one |
Britain's Peter Norfolk was thwarted in his quest for a fourth straight title at the Florida Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships by rival David Wagner. The American second seed, runner-up to Norfolk for the past three years, won 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the men's quad final.
Britain's Jamie Burdekin won the quad second draw singles, beating third seed Pablo Araya 6-4 6-4 in the final.
Doubles pair David Phillipson and Shaun Regan and junior Jordanne Whiley were Britain's other Boca Raton finalists.
Second seeds Phillipson and Regan lost 6-2 6-4 to American top seeds Anthony Lara and John Becker.
Whiley narrowly missed out in a four-way round-robin contest in the junior girls' singles.
The 14-year-old beat Americans Emmy Kaiser and Mackenzie Soldan but lost 6-4 4-6 10-4 in a deciding super tie-break to Germany's Katharina Kruger.
There could be consolation for Whiley this week when she is set to rise into the world's top 30 for the first time.
Despite his defeat to Wagner, world number one Norfolk still has a commanding advantage at the top of the rankings after winning the last three quad singles Super Series events.
Burdekin just missed out on the main draw singles but justified his top seeding in the second draw.
It is the second time in a year that the Merseyside player has won a second draw title in the US after he claimed the equivalent event at last October's US Open.
