Mistry had not won an international title since June 2005 |
Jayant Mistry won his first international singles title in over a year when he landed the North East Wheelchair Tennis title in Sunderland. The British number one beat top seed Frederic Cazeaudumec in the semi-finals before seeing off another Frenchman, Lahcen Majdi, 6-4 6-0 in the final.
Britain's Antony Cotterill won his first international quad singles title.
Susan Paisley just missed out on making it a British hat-trick, losing in the final of the women's singles.
The British number two and world number 27 went down 6-1 6-3 to top seed and defending champion Brigitte Ameryckx of Belgium.

World number 19 Mistry looks back in top form after an injury-plagued 2006 and is set for a rise up the rankings after his first international title since June 2005.
He also beat fellow Briton and Athens Paralympian Kevin Plowman and one of Britain's top juniors, David Phillipson, as he went through the tournament without dropping a set.
"It's great to beat two top 12 players who had both beaten me at the end of last year and the manner of the victories is pleasing," said Mistry, who previously won the North East title in 1999 and 2002.
"It gives me great confidence and hopefully I can carry that form in to my upcoming tournaments in the USA."
Cotterill also looks set for a rankings boost after winning a five-way round-robin contest in the quad singles.
He beat reigning national champion Chris Johnson and last year's North East runner-up and world number 13 Adam Field to claim the biggest victory of his career, less than two years after making his NEC Tour debut.
In the doubles, Mistry and Phillipson and another British pair, Tony Knappett and Kevin Simpson, both reached the semi-finals.
In the women's doubles, second seeds Paisley and Thomas lost 7-5 7-5 in the final to Belgian top seeds Ameryckx and Celine Vanneste.
