Deborah Criddle won three gold medals in Athens
Five of Great Britain's Paralympic gold medallists have been nominated for a prestigious award.

The quintet have been named on the 10-strong shortlist for the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year Award.

They are shooter Isabel Newstead, equestrian rider Deborah Criddle, cyclist Aileen McGlynn, swimmer Nyree Lewis and athlete Tanni Grey-Thompson.

The award will be presented on 24 November at a special lunch at the Sheraton Park Hotel in London.

The others on the shortlist are double Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes, badminton player Gail Emms, rugby player Donna Kennedy, sailor Shirley Robertson and golfer Karen Stupples.

British Paralympic Association Phil Lane said he was pleased to see so many Paralympic athletes nominated for the award.

"This is further recognition of their achievements and efforts both in the run-up to Athens and at the Paralympic Games themselves," he said.
