It was a moment to remember for shooter Isabel Newstead.

After a nerve-wracking final the 49-year-old became a gold medallist for the second consecutive time in the women's 10m SH1 air pistol.

But the seven-times Paralympian still was not totally satisfied.

"I came here to break a world record which I didn't do and I hate to leave a job half-done," Newstead told BBC Sport.

"I know what let me down and I will go back to training and try to put that right."

Newstead held a four-point lead over her nearest competitor, Lin Chin Mei from Chinese Taipei, at the end of the qualifying round.

A fairly nervy first series, where she managed 91 points including just one maximum 10, made way for steady progress after that.

The tension was palpable at the Markopolous Shooting Centre as Newstead's husband and coach John and the rest of the GB shooting team looked on from the stands.

She managed five 10s in the next two rounds and six in the final series to go into the final on 371 points.

Matters were keenly contested in the final as Lin managed four scores over 10, compared to just one from Newstead.

But the Scot, who is based in Harlow in Essex, managed to hold on to win by 1.7 points with Azerbaijan's Yelena Taranova taking bronze.

Other competitors did not hold their nerve so well.

Iran's Nayyereh Akef totally missed out on taking her fourth shot in the final as the big occasion got to her.

"It was a war of nerves out there and everyone was under huge pressure," John Newstead said afterwards.

"But this win comes as a huge relief to both Isabel and to me.

"I think it was worse for me because when you are watching, you have no control over what goes on.

"I was hoping that Isabel had the strength of character to get to the front and stay there.
