The lowdown on Team GB

By Ade Adepitan
Paralympian and TV presenter

The BBC's Ade Adepitan gives his guide on Great Britain's 2004 Paralympics basketball team.

Andy Blake
Position: Forward/power forward
Nickname: The Chin

Andy's the captain of the team. He is a very intensive player and emotional leader.

He makes a big difference to our team because the positioning of his chair means he sits tall which allows him to defend the bigger players.

ATHENS MEN'S DRAW
Pool A: Canada, Great Britain, Australia, France, Brazil, Italy
Pool B: USA, Holland, Iran, Japan, Germany, Greece
Matt Byrne
Position: Guard
Nickname: Matty Darling

Matt is new to the squad and has only been in it for two years. He's a good shooter and good defender. Quiet on the court but lively off.

Terry Bywater
Position: Power foward
Nickname: Ginger

Terry has been in the squad since Sydney. He came in at the age of 16 and I think he's like the youngest player to have been selected by Great Britain at a major international tournament.

Terry is the kind of player that come on the court and score very, very quickly. He will be important for the future.

Pete Finbow
Position: Point guard/guard
Nickname: Bradford

Pete has been in and out of the team for a while. He is a steady player and does not make many mistakes. You are always going to get a steady game from him.

Kevin Hayes
Position: Guard
Nickname: Rocky

Kevin is classed as a 1.0 and is probably the best in his classification anywhere in the world. He is one of the leaders of squad because he has got quite a lot of experience.

Stuart Jellows
Position: Centre
Nickname: Longy

Stuart is the future of the team. Being 6ft 5in means that he is a really, really important player. Stuart is big offensively and big defensively. I think it will be interesting to see how he reacts with the pressure of the Paralympics.

Simon Munn
Position: Centre
Nickname: Dot

Simon is a big, big guy. He is one of the most important players in the team because of his size and presence. As a result he will always mark the best players in the opposition team.

Fred Howley
Position: Power forward/centre
Nickname: Justin 'The Monk' Howley

Justin acts almost like Simon's backup but can also play alongside him. He takes the pressure off Simon because he has a similar qualities of strength and power.

Jon Pollock
Position: Point guard/shooting guard
Nickname: Shrek

Both John and Simon were named in the all-star team at the recent World Championship.

John is a good all-round player and good three-point shooter.

Colin Price
Position: Guard
Nickname: Pricey

Pricey is a legend. He has been playing in the team for a long time. I think his first Paralympics was in Seoul. If there was a Hall of Fame for wheelchair basketball players he would be the first name to go in.

Sinclair Thomas
Position: Shooting guard/small forward
Nickname: Saint/Morph

Sinclair is an amazing player. He was one of the first stars I saw when I first started playing.

He made his debut in the GB squad when he was 16 and two years later Sinclair was recognised as one of the best players in the world. He has endured a dip in form, but now back Sinclair is back to his very best.
