Fred Howley will be hoping to make up for the disappointment of Sydney |
Nine members of the GB men's wheelchair basketball team who just missed out on bronze at the Sydney Paralympics will be back in action in Athens this year. The 12-strong team has been named with the Games now only 100 days away.
The team is captained by Andy Blake, who played in the Sydney team and whose wife Kimberly has been named on the GB Paralympic wheelchair tennis team.
Among the other squad members are television presenter and BBC Sport columnist Ade Adepitan.
The squad, coached by Dave Titmuss also includes Simon Munn and Colin Price, who will be appearing in their fourth and fifth Paralympics respectively. Four years ago, GB missed out on a medal by just three points in the dying seconds of their play-off against the USA.
But since then, they have shown their medal credentials for Athens by winning the silver medal in the 2002 World Championships in Japan and then a bronze at the European Championships in Italy last year.
Team: Ade Adepitan (London), Andy Blake (Milton Keynes), Matt Byrne (Nottingham), Terry Bywater (Cleveland), Pete Finbow (Bradford), Kevin Hayes (Rotherham), Fred Howley (Cannock), Stuart Jellows (Herts), Simon Munn (Manchester), Jon Pollock (Wigan), Colin Price (Sheffield), Sinclair Thomas (Shropshire).
