Van Barneveld failed to drop a leg in his first-round match |
Raymond van Barneveld eased past Warren Parry 3-0 to reach the second round of the PDC World Championship. The 42-year-old Dutchman failed to drop a leg against the New Zealander at London's Alexandra Palace. "Warren played not what he can play. I think he was too nervous because of the crowd," said Van Barneveld. Kevin Painter of England beat Austrian Mensur Suljovic 3-1 and will play either Dutchman Vincent van der Voort or Gibraltar's Dylan Duo in round two. England's Alan Tabern and Mark Dudbridge, plus Welshman Mark Webster, also made it through the second round. | 606: DEBATE |
Van Barneveld thanked the crowd for helping him to victory, saying: "Every year I come back and I wonder why they want to cheer for a Dutchman. They're fantastic. I'm happy with the win." Van Barneveld is hoping for another showdown with world number one Phil Taylor, even though the Englishman thrashed him 7-1 in the final of the last PDC Championship. "I desperately want to be in the final this year," said the Dutchman. "Last year he beat me with 111, an amazing average. I hope to get revenge."
