Lewis plays Robert Thornton in the first round of the World Grand Prix in Dublin

Stoke-on-Trent's Adrian Lewis triumphed 6-4 over local rival Andy Hamilton to win his second Players Championship title in the space of a month.

Hamilton, who earlier beat Phil Taylor for the first time in competitive darts, led Lewis 4-1 in the final.

But the 24-year-old hit back to win five straight legs and take the £6,000 first prize at the Citywest Hotel.

The current world number eight also picked up the Austrian Open Players Championship trophy in September.

Lewis will be one of 32 players battling for the £100,000 first prize at the World Grand Prix, which starts on Monday, and he will go into the tournament full of confidence.

"It's a massive boost for me," said Lewis. "I was delighted to win in Austria last month and I've managed to keep that form going.

"Hopefully now I can take that into the World Grand Prix."

Lewis plays the dangerous Robert Thornton in the first round on Monday, while Hamilton has to wait until Tuesday before his match against Mark Walsh.

Defending champion Phil Taylor, who is looking to win the event for the ninth time, starts against Brendan Dolan on Monday.
