Taylor predicts tight battle for World Championship

Thirteen-time champion Phil "The Power" Taylor predicts a narrow group of contenders for this year's PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.

Speaking to BBC London 94.9 ahead of the event which starts on Friday, 19 December, Taylor said: "Two or three (stand out) at the moment.

"The one person that stands out to me could be Andy Hamilton.

"I think he's got that winning mentality. He's got the drive, and his form is good."

He added: "James Wade is in for a shout but he doesn't seem very confident at the moment.

"Raymond Van Barnaveld is always there or thereabouts and, if you don't watch John Part, he can win a tournament.

"John is a bit sneaky. He picks up the pieces if people don't perform but he can win the World Championship so I wouldn't bet against him."

Taylor begins the tournament against Somerset-based qualifier and pub landlord, Steve Grubb.
